Terry Fox
Pencil on paper, 12 x 16", 2019
In 1980 Terry Fox ran his legendary "Marathon of Hope". Terry was born in Winnipeg Manitoba. At the age of 18 he was diagnosed with cancer. After his leg was amputated at the knee, Terry decided to run to raise money for cancer research. He ran 5373 kms before he was forced to stop.
I was 12 when Terry came near Kitchener with his run. I remember the build up. We discussed it in class. It was on the news. It stuck with me.
In this piece I tried to capture Terry, and also the run. I kept the background a bit surreal, like things get to feeling like on a long run.
