Andrew Stuart McLean was a great Canadian storyteller. He also was a broadcaster, author and humorist. He was perhaps best known for his CBC program, "The Vinyl Cafe".
Stuart had the ability to weave a story in a way that was fascinating and spellbinding. My favorite of his stories was a true one, of the epic misadventure of Roger Woodward who as a child accidentally went over Niagara Falls. ("The Story of Roger Woodward")
This piece is where my idea to do a series of Great Canadians began. Stuart had just passed away and I was moved to do a portrait of him. The background is that of a rising sun, with the sun being behind Stuart, at around the area of his hands.
This portrait now resides at McMaster University in Hamilton. It is part of the Stuart McLean archives.
