Neil Young is a master of poetic song.  When I listen to him I am taken away to another way of thinking and seeing.  

This is my first all-out charcoal portrait.  I like the way it let me smear, and also the intense black that can easily be laid in.  The background was fun.  I used a tool that is like a palette knife but with a sponge applicator on it, and I picked up charcoal with it and applied it like it was paint.

I have included Neil here in my series of Great Canadians, since he started here, and still is a citizen, and hey, he's pretty great.
